Are all your large animals vaccinated for Rabies?
Recently a bobcat in Sunapee, NH, tested positive for the Rabies Virus. When many of us think of Rabies, we think of skunks, raccoons, foxes, and bats transmitting the disease. It is important to remember any mammal can carry and transmit the Rabies virus, which is fatal to humans and animals. It is essential that our large animal companions be vaccinated against this disease yearly. Some of the staff veterinarians at Claremont Animal Hospital have witnessed the tragedy of horses affected by Rabies and the consequences to their caregivers both emotional and physical while undergoing Rabies prophylaxis.
